Cats ink reliever Juan Figueroa

The Fort Worth Cats have signed right-handed relief pitcher Juan Figueroa to a contract for the 2007 season.
Figueroa, 25, was the Cats' closer during the 2005 season and ranked fifth in the Central Baseball League with 11 saves in 38 appearances. He had a 3-4 record with a 4.34 ERA in 45 2/3 innings pitched.
He notched three saves in the playoffs and limited opponents to a .100 batting average against in six innings of work in the postseason. He recorded the last five outs of Game 5 of the CBL Championship Series against San Angelo and struck out the final batter to clinch the 2005 title for Fort Worth.
Figueroa appeared in five games with El Paso in 2006, going 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in five innings of work
Figueroa was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers organization in 2001. His best season came with Single-A Oneonta (New York-Penn) in 2002 when he posted 21 saves and had a record of 0-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 28 appearances.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Figueroa is currently pitching in the Puerto Rican winter league.
