Canadiens Acquire Goaltender Karri Ramo from Lightning in Return for Cedrick Desjardins

MONTREAL, Quebec - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the acquisition of goaltender Karri Ramo from the Tampa Bay Lightning, in return for netminder Cedrick Desjardins.

Ramo, 24, played in 44 games with Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League in 2009-2010, posting a record of 21 wins, 17 losses and 4 overtime losses. The native of Asikkala, Finland finished the season with a 2.11 goals against average, sixth-best in the KHL, and a .913 save percentage. Ramo also registered four shutouts, fourth-most in the league.

Selected in the sixth round, 191st overall by Tampa Bay in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Ramo has played in 125 professional games in North America between the age of 20 and 23 from 2006 to 2009. In 48-career regular season games with the Lightning, the 6'2$B!G!G, 201-pound goaltender recorded an 11-21-10 record, a 3.35 goals against average and a .895 save percentage. Ramo has also participated in 77 American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons and Norfolk Admirals.

Desjardins, 24, joined the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent on July 3, 2008. In 90 career regular season games with the Hamilton Bulldogs from 2006-2010, the Edmundston, New Brunswick native posted a 59-27-5 record, a 2.64 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
