Manitoba Moose News Release
Today the Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is proud to announce the donation of $202,000 to 11 local children's charities. As a result, the Yearling Foundation is thrilled to announce they have now disbursed over $2.3 million to a variety of children's charities since its creation in 1996.
The Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is the charitable arm of the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club. As a non-profit organization, it raises money year round to support a variety of registered children's charities in Manitoba. The funds were raised through Yearling Foundation events such as the Flatlander's Beer Festival, Yearling Foundation Gala Dinner, Mystery Boxes, Ranger Insurance Charity Golf Classic, and 50/50 raffle draws at all Manitoba Moose home games.
"To reach the $2.3 million mark in monies donated to charities is a great accomplishment for the Yearling Foundation," stated Moose Yearling Foundation Coordinator Trish Brown. "This would not be possible without the generosity of those who support our fund-raising activities, our event sponsors, all our volunteers and our internal staff and management who get behind all of our events. They should know they are the reason we are able to help so many children around the province."
One of the high moments last season was the growth of the Little Moose Youth Hockey Program in partnership with the Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport Achievement Centre (WASAC). This program, which began in 2008, introduces hockey basics to inner-city youth with plans to expand even more in 2010/11.
The Yearling Foundation operates under the direction of Coordinator Trish Brown, in partnership with a volunteer Board of Directors headed by Chairperson George Sigurdson, and board members Kevin Neiles, Blake Fitzpatrick, Robert Thorsten, Brian Lerner, Laurie Finley, Norva Riddell, Deb Kocen, and John Olfert.
