Canadians Drop 7th Straight; Fall 4-2 To Volcanoes

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Canadians managed to put two runners on in the bottom of the 9th inning, bringing the winning run to the plate, but 2B Ryan Metzler would pop out to center field extending Vancouver's longest losing streak since 2011 to seven games with a 4-2 loss out at sold out Scotiabank Field.

Salem-Keizer, who had managed 30 hits over the first two games of the series, got on the board offensively in the top of the 3rd inning when 2B Junior Amion led off with a single off of LHP Ryan Borucki, scoring shortly after on a sacrifice fly (Miguel Gomez) to give the Volcanoes a 1-0 lead.

A three-run outburst in the top of the 4th inning featured a pair of triples (Jose Vizcaino Jr & Junior Amion) that put the Canadians down by four, with all three earned runs being charged to Blue Jays 1st Round Draft Pick RHP Jon Harris. The native of Florissant, Missouri went two scoreless innings after his struggles in the 4th inning to keep the game within reach.

The Canadians offense would chip away at the Volcanoes lead with a run in the bottom of the 4th and 5th inning as 3B Carl Wise (single) and 2B Ryan Metzler (double) each scored to bring Vancouver within a pair.

LHP Brandon Hinkle went 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief followed by a scoreless 9th inning from Canadians closer RHP Andrew Case to keep the Canadians close. In the bottom of the 9th inning, RF Sean Hurley led off with a walk, and with one out C Kevin Garcia caught a break when C Miguel Gomez glove interfered with his swing putting runners at first and second base with two outs. The winning run stepped into the batter's box with two out in the bottom of the 9th inning, but Salem-Keizer closer RHP Ryan Halstead got 2B Ryan Metzler to pop out to center field to end the game securing the Volcanoes third straight victory over Vancouver.

Notes: With the loss, Vancouver falls to 8-16 (.333) on the season and fall seven games back of North Division leading Everett (15-9). The last time the Canadians lost seven straight was between August 7th -13th, 2011, a year they went on to win the franchise's first Northwest League Championship... The Canadians are now 4-7 (.363) at home through 11 games... Salem-Keizer has amassed 41 hits through the first three games of this series... The Canadians are 2-9 (.181) in the month of July...
