Canadian Series Starts with Game 1 Loss

KAMLOOPS, BC- The Pippins were riding a high of back-to-back series wins and a 15 hit performance last time out, but a big 3rd inning was the difference for Kamloops in the 6-2 win.
After around 10-hours on the bus to get up north, the Pippins got out to a fairly strong start. An inning ending double play by Henry Gargus sent it to the 2nd in a scoreless tie.
The bottom of the order found a string of success, loading the bases with 1 out for Owen McWilliam. The British Columbia wind was blowing from left to right field and certainly hurt the chances for the right-handed left fielder.
McWilliam launched one 99 mph (or 159.33 kph) off of the bat that looked like a grand slam, until it was caught against the wall and the Pippins would have to settle with only 1 run on the sac fly.
The 1-0 lead was held until the 3rd where the Pippins lost control. A pair of hit-by-pitches started the inning and was followed by a hot shot off of third baseman Jaxon Sorenson's glove to score a run.
The NorthPaws poured it on with an RBI double after that, and then a dropped fly ball in left field extended the inning.
When the 3rd inning was all said and done it was a 5-1 lead for Kamloops. Both offenses would have chances after this but go scoreless for a good chunk of the game.
The Pippins followed a stretch of 7 straight batters retired at the plate by leaving 2 stranded in the 6th with 3 straight strikeouts and a back pick by catcher Trey Newman to pick off a runner and end the 7th.
Meanwhile, Julian Taudin-Chabot did a fantastic job of working out of trouble in relief.
The righty from Everett CC had a pair of 1-2-3 innings in the 6th and 8th and left 5 combined on-base in the 5th and 7th while only allowing 1 run.
Yakima Valley had their chance in the 8th by loading the bases with no one out. A 6-4-3 double play brought home the 2nd Pippins run but killed the momentum, and Kamloops would close it out by retiring the side in order in the 9th.
The Pippins dip to 9-19 while the NorthPaws advance to 14-10 and 2nd in the North Division. The rematch is Tuesday at 6:35 and can be listened to on mixlr.com/pippinsbaseball.
