Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Saskatoon, SK. -- Team Canada improved to 2-0 at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatoon on Monday while the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings saw their season high 8-game winning streak come to an end in Swift Current.
In Saskatoon, Brandon McMillan of the Kelowna Rockets scored three times while Regina's Jordan Eberle added a goal and four assists as Team Canada blanked Switzerland 6-0 for their second win in three days.
The Canadians continue preliminary play Tuesday night against Slovakia.
Brandon Wheat Kings' center Brayden Schenn had one assist in Monday's win, giving him three points in two games.
While Schenn and the Canadians were getting it done in Saskatoon, his WHL team - the Wheat Kings - weren't so fortunate. Brad Hoban's second goal of the game, with less than four minutes remaining in regulation time lifted the hometown Swift Current Broncos to a 4-2 victory.
Rookies Jesse Sinatynski and Brenden Walker scored in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who lost for the first time in the month of December. Brandon is now 25-12-0-2 on the season.
The Wheat Kings, who outshot the Broncos 34-29, will continue this week's 3-game road trip in Red Deer on Wednesday night. Following a New Years Eve game against the Oil Kings in Edmonton, Brandon will return home to play the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday. Tickets for that game will go back on sale Tuesday morning at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
Still with hockey, the Canadian entry at the 2009 Spengler Cup in Switzerland scored a 6-2 victory over the host team Davos on Monday afternoon. The Canadians, coached by former Edmonton Oilers' bench boss Craig McTavish, is now unbeaten in two games and will now meet Germany on Tuesday.
