Can-Am League Game Recaps

July 11, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Rockland at Quebec (Postponed - Rain)

The game between Rockland and Quebec was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 5 p.m. Both games will be seven innings.

Newark 6, New York 3

The Nos. 1 and 2 hitters for the Bears - CF Tim Raines Jr. and 3B Juan Martinez - each picked up three hits, with three RBI and two runs between them. Raines Jr. batted in one of Newark's three fourth-inning runs. In that frame, the Bears stretched a one-run lead to four and never looked back. The Bears saw starting pitcher Casey Gaynor go seven innings and allow just one run on three hits with as many strikeouts. The win was Gaynor's second of the season. The Federals got an impressive performance form their leadoff batter as well, with 2B Jacob Rosenbeck going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Worcester 14, New Jersey 5

The Tornoades already held a commanding 7-2 lead over the Jackals of New Jersey heading into the sixth inning. But for 3B Mark Minicozzi, five runs wasn't good enough. In consecutive at-bats in the sixth and seventh frames, Minicozzi blasted two home runs - a two-run homer in the sixth and a three-run round-tripper in the seventh. The homers were the only two hits of the game for Minicozzi, who also walked and scored on an Alex Trezza homer in the second. The Jackals put three runs on the board in the ninth but couldn't come back from a massive 12-run deficit. Jackals 1B Kris Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Brockton 12, Pittsfield 6

With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Brockton 1B Trey Hernandez had a chance to put his club in the driver's seat. And he did just that with one swing of the bat. Hernandez took an 0-2 pitch over the outfield wall for his fourth home run of the year, a grand slam. The Rox fended off a couple Pittsfield comebacks before the slam, with the Colonials twice tying the score before Brockton broke out to a 12-6 win. Hernandez finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs and a game-high five RBI. For the Colonials, 2B Peter Fatse went 2-for-4 with two runs.
