EDINBURG, Texas - the Edinburg Roadrunners used a stellar performance from starting pitcher Curtis Camilli to guide them over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 7-2 on Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Camilli (3-1) earned the win going eight innings allowing a solo homerun in the eighth inning with 11 strikeouts.
The Roadrunners (11-13) got on the board first when; Carlton Salters hit a single and reached second base on an error. He moved to third on a groundout and Trevor Whyte that hit an RBI single that made it 1-0.
Edinburg added a run in the fifth inning when Bobby Rinard hit a triple to start the inning and Salters drove him in with a single that pushed the lead to 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Whyte reached on a double, and then Tylor Prudhomme reached on a walk to set the stage for Dan Coury who launched his first homerun of the season to make it 5-0.
The Roadrunners offense continued its scoring ways in the seventh inning when Whyte hit into a fielder's choice RBI and made it 6-0. Coury would drive in Whyte for his fourth RBI of the game to make it 7-0.
Kieran Bradford broke the shutout for the WhiteWings (12-12) in the eighth inning, when he hit his first homerun of the season to cut the deficit at 7-1.
Albert Carpen hit an RBI single in the ninth inning to end the scoring for the WhiteWings and the game at 7-2
A.J. Smouse (3-1) took the loss for the WhiteWings going six innings allowing five earned runs with three strikeouts.
The Roadrunners continue their 20 game home stand on Tuesday when they will open a four game series against the Alexandria Aces with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm..
Tuesday's home game against the Alexandria Aces will be RC Cola and 7Up Two for Tuesday where select food items and drinks will be only $2.
