SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced on Monday that Alec Calvaruso (Cal-VAH-roo-so) has been named Goaltender of the Week and Max Crozier (KROW-zhurr) has been named Defenseman of the Week. It marks the first time this season the Stampede have had two players take home the award on the same week. Calvaruso finished the weekend with a 3-0-0 record, 1.21 goals against average (GAA) and a .952 save percentage while Crozier tallied five points in three games.

Calvaruso joined the Stampede last Tuesday and suited up for the first time in team uniform on Thursday night. He entered the game in the third period against Dubuque with the Stampede trailing 4-1. The Livonia, MI native stopped all 10 shots faced as the Stampede rallied to win the game, 5-4 in overtime. He then stopped 29 of 31 shots on Friday and 20 of the 21 attempts he faced on Saturday to help the Stampede to a weekend sweep of the Green Bay Gamblers. Because of Calvaruso's strong play between the pipes, the Stampede have extended their winning streak to four games, won five of their last six contests and sit just two points back of fourth place in the Western Conference standings.

The 6-foot-2, 181-pound netminder joined the Stampede from Colorado College. Prior to playing with the Tigers he played with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he posted a 2.13 GAA and a .906 save percentage during the 2016-17 season.

Crozier scored twice, including the overtime winner, and added an assist in Sioux Falls' 5-4 comeback victory over Dubuque on Thursday and dished out two more helpers as the Stampede knocked off the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, helping his team extend their winning streak and improve to 5-0-1 during the month of December. The Providence College commit has been on an offensive tear as of late, as he has recorded at least one point in seven of his last nine games dating back to Nov. 18, with 11 points (3G, 8A) in those contests.

In total this season, he has amassed 16 points (4G, 12A) in 21 games to lead all Stampede defensemen and sits in a tie for eighth among all USHL blueliners in scoring. A native of Calgary, AB, Crozier is in his first USHL season. He was drafted by Sioux Falls in the second round, 22nd overall in the 2018 USHL Phase II Draft and spent last season with the Nanaimo Clippers (BCHL) where he recorded 29 points (6g, 23a) in 49 games.

The Stampede travel to Des Moines on Tuesday to face the Buccaneers at 6:05 PM in the final game before the holiday break. Fans can catch all the action on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 105.1-FM, 107.9-FM and KELO.com starting at 5:40 PM. The Herd return home next Thursday, December 27th to host the Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available through the KEOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
