
Called up Wilson earns AHL honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The American Hockey League (AHL) has named defenseman Clay Wilson as the Player of the Week for the period ending December 25, 2005. Wilson is currently called up to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. During the week, he had five points (4g, 1a) in three games. Two of his goals were game-winners as the Griffins won all three of their contests.
Wilson began the season with the Muskegon Fury (UHL). In 13 games with the Fury, the 22-year-old native of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota registered 12 points (3g, 9a) and a plus-7 rating. Wilson was assigned to Grand Rapids on November 26th and has collected ten points (5g, 5a) in 15 games with the AHL club.
Wilson is the fifth member of the Muskegon Fury to be assigned to Grand Rapids this season. Other Fury call-ups include Jon Insana, Ryan Keller, Kevin LaPointe, and Jeff Nelson.
"It makes our league very proud that one of our players has moved up and enjoyed this amount of success in the AHL," stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. "It is a testament to the efforts of the UHL Member Clubs and their coaches as they continue to develop and prepare these players for opportunities at the next level."
Currently, a total of 23 different UHL players have earned call-ups to the AHL this season.
