Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- Angels fans should be excited about the upcoming return of infielder Alberto Callaspo and pitcher Mark Lowe. Both had strong performances Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium for the Inland Empire 66ers (14-13) but it was still not enough as the team fell 5-4 to the division leading Lancaster JetHawks (16-10).
Alberto Callaspo was the 66ers offensive star of the first seven innings of the game. He had an RBI in the first inning and two walks over his next two plate appearances. Outside of his efforts the 66ers could only connect on one hit against JetHawks starter Brady Rogers while Lancaster posted four runs against Inland Empire's staff through five frames.
Mark Lowe helped slow the JetHawks offensive run with two shutout innings in middle relief. The Angels right-hander recorded two strikeouts without allowing a hit or walk to complete his scheduled rehab appearance.
Down 5-1 entering the bottom of the 8th the 66ers finally found their way on to the scoreboard. Zach Borenstein smashed his eight home run of the season, and Andy Workman made it back-to-back bombs with his first home run of 2013. Two walks and a single followed Workman's homer to bring Alberto Callaspo to the plate and he delivered a sacrifice fly to make it a one run game and get the tying run to third.
That would be the last gasp though for the 66ers as they failed to drive in the tying run in either the 8th or 9th inning despite leaving four runners on the base paths. The loss drops the 66ers back to a 2 - game deficit behind division leading Lancaster.
The Inland Empire 66ers hit the road for the next week starting with a four game series at Lake Elsinore which begins Friday at 7:05 PM. The game can be heard on the 66ers flagship station AM 1050 KCAA.
The 66ers return home Friday, May 10th for a Toyota and Scion of Redlands 50 cent Friday and a Halo Hat giveaway presented by Frozen Ropes. For information on 66ers tickets or to schedule your next fun filled group outing, contact the 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
