Lancaster JetHawks News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks took the rubber game of a the three game series, 5-4, against the Inland Empire 66ers in large part due to the right arm of starter Brady Rodgers. The right-hander allowed just one hit over five innings on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium to pick up his second win.

Rodgers (2-1) allowed one unearned run, struck out two and issued one walk on the night.

After the JetHawks scored a run in the top of the first, Joel Capote led off the bottom of the inning with an infield single against Rodgers. Capote then moved to second on a passed ball and scored from second on an Alberto Callaspo soft ground ball to first.

Of the final 14 batters he faced, Rodgers retired 11 of them via ground out, two by strike out and walked one. He only allowed one fly ball in the game.

Lancaster put up a run in the second inning on a Tyler Heineman sac-fly that scored Preston Tucker and constantly put runners aboard against 66ers starter Austin Wood (0-2).

Wood was pulled after 3 2/3 innings after issuing his season-high fourth walk.

The JetHawks put up two runs against the bullpen in the fifth. Nolan Fontana drove in DeShields with a single and later scored on a Matt Duffy ground out.

Heineman doubled with two outs in the eighth and M.P. Cokinos drove him in with a single. The hit extended Cokinos' hitting streak to 10 games and the run proved to be a very important insurance run.

Christ Devenski, the piggy-back starter, threw a relatively easy 2 1/3 innings before hitting a road block in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Zach Borenstein and Andy Workman hit back-to-back home runs to get the 66ers within two.

Devenski proceeded to give up two walks and a hit to the next three batters to load the bases. Manager Rodney Linares went to Travis Ballew out of the bullpen to get out of the jam.

Callaspo hit a sac-fly to centerfield against Ballew to score a run but the right-hander struck out Alex Yarbrough to strand the potential tying and leading runs in scoring position. He threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save.

The JetHawks (16-10) head to High Desert for the first of a four game series on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Tyson Perez (1-0, 5.96) will start and Luis Cruz (1-1, 3.47) will piggy-back him.
