Callahan to Participate in 2007 World Championships

New York, May 10, 2007 - New York Rangers forward Ryan Callahan will represent the United States at the 2007 IIHF World Championships in Russia. Team USA will be facing off against Finland today in the Quarterfinals at Khodynka Arena in Moscow.

Callahan, 22, will be making his first appearance in the World Championships. The 5-11, 185-pound forward registered four goals and two assists, along with nine penalty minutes and a plus-five rating in 14 contests with the Rangers this season. He also skated in all 10 postseason games with the Blueshirts, collecting two goals and one assist, along with six penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. Prior to his recall to the Rangers on March 15, the 2007 AHL All-Star led the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) in goals (35), power play goals (15), shorthanded goals (four), and points (55). With 35 goals, Callahan tied Nigel Dawes' franchise record for goals in a season by a rookie. On April 4, Callahan was selected to the 2007 AHL All-Rookie Team, as voted by AHL players and media in each of the league's 27 member cities. Internationally, the native of Rochester, New York also represented the United States in the 2005 World Junior Championships, collecting one goal and two assists, along with 29 penalty minutes in seven games. His 29 penalty minutes led the team.
