MORNING HEADLINES:
STARS CLING TO MEMORY OF '06 RALLY TO MOTIVATE
Lisa Colonno, Des Moines Register
Memories of Milwaukee push Iowa Stars forward Chris Conner. Iowa enters Game 5 of the West Division finals today in a must-win situation, as the Chicago Wolves lead the best-of-seven Calder Cup series 3-1. It's a familiar American Hockey League playoff situation for the Stars, who trailed Milwaukee 3-1 in their first-round series last season but came back to tie the series against a team led by Darren Haydar - who now paces the Wolves. "A lot of guys in the room last year, we were down 3-1 and we came back to force a Game 7," Conner said. "It's totally possible. ... We're down 3-1 so there is nothing to save it for." ... Link
LEACH HAS GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND THE LINE OF DUTY
Joe McDonald, Providence Journal
In order for a team to have success, players need to know their roles, and if for some reason there's a communication breakdown in the chain of command, it's the captain's duty to correct things. Providence Bruins captain Jay Leach is the embodiment of a true leader and that's why he's wearing the "C" on his sweater. This season, especially, he has been a critical component for a young and inexperienced P-Bruins club. "He's been with us for a while now and he knows what our expectations are," said Providence coach Scott Gordon. "I'm sure there are many conversations he has that I don't even know about, just to back up what we say and our philosophy as coaches. That's so critical for a team's success because you can't, as a coach, oversee everything." ... Link
