Call, Adolfo Lead Offense in Twin Bill Finale Win

April 25, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL) - Winston-Salem Dash News Release

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Dash offense tallied nine runs on 16 hits-including seven doubles-to cruise to a 9-3 win over Lynchburg in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader. After falling 4-3 in game one, Winston-Salem splits the doubleheader with the Hillcats to set up a rubber game in Thursday's series finale.

It was a banner night for multiple members of the starting lineup. Alex Call went 4-for-4 with two doubles, setting a new career-high with four hits. Micker Adolfo finished the night 2-for-3 with a home run, tying a career-high with five RBIs. Meanwhile, Nate Nolan ended the evening by tying a career-high with three hits in his 3-for-4 effort, and starter Danny Dopico tied a career-high with four innings pitched while striking out a career-high seven batters.

The Dash (11-9) offense got off to hot start against Hillcats left-hander Tanner Tully (1-1), beginning the ballgame with three consecutive hits. Joel Booker led off with a double, Call followed with a single, and then, Luis Basabe doubled down the left field line to bring in Booker as the game's first run. Two batters later, Yermin Mercedes crushed a double to bring Basabe around and give Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead.

But, the Hillcats struck back with a pair of two-baggers of their own. In the bottom of the first inning, Dillon Persinger and Conner Capel smacked back-to-back doubles down the right field line to cut the Dash lead in half. Then, after Capel stole third, Jodd Carter hit a slow roller up the middle that resulted in a game-tying infield single.

Those would be the only runs Dash starter Danny Dopico would allow. The right-hander finished strong, retiring nine of the last 10 batters he faced.

Winston-Salem retook the lead in the third. After Booker and Call notched back-to-back singles, Basabe delivered his second RBI double of the night to make it a 3-2 contest. Adolfo followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Dash a two-run lead.

Adolfo broke the game open in the fifth. With runners on first and second and one out, he blasted a three-run homer over the video board in right-center - his fifth longball of the season - to give Winston-Salem a 7-2 advantage.

The top four batters in the Winston-Salem order (Booker, Call, Basabe and Adolfo) finished the night a combined 10-for-14 with six doubles, a home run, seven RBIs and nine runs scored.

The Hillcats got a run back in the sixth against right-hander Zach Thompson (1-1) but nothing more in his two innings of work. Jose Ruiz finished the game for the Dash, firing a scoreless seventh.

Winston-Salem wraps up its series with Lynchburg on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Luis Martinez (0-0, 2.92 ERA) makes his first start of the season for the Dash, and right-hander Justin Garza (2-0, 0.00) toes the rubber for the Hillcats. Fans can catch all of the action on and the TuneIn Radio App.

Following their series with Lynchburg, the Dash travel up to Wilmington, Del., to take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks in a three-game series before Monday's scheduled off day.

Winston-Salem will return home to BB&T Ballpark from May 1-6 for a six-game homestand, which will feature a pair of three-game sets against the Hillcats and the Buies Creek Astros. The promotions for the Dash's upcoming homestand include our first Free Food Tuesday on May 1, where fans can enjoy free hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers through the seventh inning for the price of admission, a Pure Barre class on the field on May 3, and a Star Wars Night on May 4.

Meanwhile, the Dash will wear "Winston-Salem Rayados" jerseys on May 6, as part of the team's participation in Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversión," or "Fun Cup," initiative, a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with participating teams' local Hispanic/Latino communities.
