Lancaster Stormers News Release

Jay Caligirui launched a three-run homer over the left field screen in the bottom half of the seventh inning, capping a comeback as Bridgeport completed a four-game sweep with a 6-4 win over the Barnstormers Sunday afternoon at Harbor Yard.

With the Barnstormers leading, 4-1, entering the seventh, Alex Prieto led off with a walk against reliever Nick Renault, who then fired a wild pitch moving Prieto to second. Luis Lopez lined an RBI single to left to cut the lead to 4-2, and Jesse Hoorelbeke added a single, putting the tying runs on base. Sendy Rleal (5-4) was summoned, and he struck out Ryan Bear looking for the first out. Caligiuri then hit his third homer in three days for the 5-4 advantage.

A sacrifice fly by Hoorelbeke in the eighth drove in an insurance run.

Lancaster posted two runs on the board in the first inning. Lloyd Turner doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single by Matt LeCroy. Danny Gonzalez added a single, and David Castillo laced a double down the right field line to score LeCroy for the 2-0 edge. Ivanon Coffie walked to load the bases. Jutt Hileman sent a ground ball up the middle, but Henry Mateo gobbled it up to his right and got a force play at second to end the inning.

The Barnstormers went ahead, 3-1, in the fourth on a solo homer to left by Jordan Herr, and tacked on another run in the fifth as Castillo again doubled home LeCroy, who had walked earlier in the inning.

On other occasions, the Barnstormers were thwarted. Lloyd Turner hit into a line drive double play in the second inning with Mike Woods in motion on a 3-2 pitch. In the sixth, Herr led off with a double to right and, one out later, attempted to score on Turner's single to center. A perfect throw by Travis Ezi gunned Herr out at the plate.

Overall, the Barnstormers left 11 runners on base.

Jason Scobie allowed eight hits in six innings, but the only tally off him came on Prieto's line drive homer to left in the first. He walked two and struck out four.

NOTES: Hileman's nine game winning streak came to an end...Woods had two more hits and is batting .436 in his last 14 games...Castillo was 6-for-14 with three doubles and a homer in the four-game series...LeCroy reached base four times in five plate appearances on a single and three walks...Herr's homer was his second in Bridgeport out of three total...The Caligiuri homer ended a streak of 13.0 consecutive scoreless innings for Rleal...Lancaster will send Ben Fritz (0-0) to the hill on Monday evening against lefty Lance Davis...The 7:05 game is the makeup of a rainout on August 14.
