SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes (7-14-10; 31 pts.) will host the LA Galaxy (12-12-7; 43 pts.) in the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium tonight at 7 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
The California Clasico is the biggest event on the Quakes' regular season schedule. Hosted annually at Stanford Stadium, the match features the Earthquakes and Galaxy, one of the most historic and passionate rivalries in Major League Soccer, followed by the Bay Area's largest fireworks show. The event also features food trucks, a beer garden, a pregame skydiver, a military appreciation celebration, a halftime ceremony of former Quakes players, and more.
The California Clasico surpassed 50,000 fans in each of its first eight iterations (2012-19) before a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19. Tonight's match is the long-awaited return three years in the making, with an expected crowd of more than 45,000.
San Jose enters the match on a three-match unbeaten streak at home (2-0-1). Despite being eliminated from postseason contention, the Quakes have an opportunity to play spoiler to their biggest rival who are level on points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. San Jose holds a 5-1-2 record vs. LA at Stanford, with four come-from-behind victories.
The LA Galaxy are 1-1-3 in their last five matches, most recently defeating the Colorado Rapids 4-1 at home. The club is led by Mexican international Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez who has scored a team-leading 15 goals.
