Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Baltimore, Md- The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation today announced that they will be visiting two local minor league stadiums, Ripken Stadium and Harry Grove Stadium, within the next week to host Mystery Ball Night, a fundraiser in which fans will have the opportunity to purchase autographed baseballs. All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation's programs for underprivileged children.
For $10 a ball, fans attending the game on Mystery Ball Night will have the opportunity to select a wrapped, autographed ball from a basket. There will be approximately 400 balls sold in each stadium. Every minor league player on each home team has signed a dozen balls for the promotion. Also in the mix are another 4 dozen balls signed by one of four Baltimore Orioles stars: current Oriole BJ Surhoff, and former Orioles Cal Ripken, Jr., Bill Ripken, and Brady Anderson. Fans who buy a Mystery Ball may end up with a minor leaguer's autograph, or an autograph from Cal Ripken himself.
On Saturday, August 28th the promotion will kick off at Ripken Stadium, where the Aberdeen IronBirds will take on the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:05 p.m.
Bill Ripken and the Foundation staff will visit Harry Grove Stadium on Tuesday, August 31st to run the promotion during the Frederick Keys 7:05 p.m. game against the Lynchburg Hillcats.
The Rochester Redwings will conduct their own Mystery Ball Night on behalf of the Foundation Tuesday, August 31st at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation was founded in 2001 and is dedicated to building character through baseball âThe Ripken Way." Inspired by their father's teachings, work ethic and love for baseball, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Bill Ripken established the Foundation as a means for reaching out to thousands of underprivileged kids who might not otherwise have the chance to develop their skills in the game of baseball and the "game of life."
