Cal League Field Awards and Post Season All-Stars Announced

Oxnard, CA - The California League announced today its 2019 Field Awards and Post Season All-Star Team. Shawn

Roof was named Manager of the Year. In his first year as manager in the Cal League, Roof led his Visalia Rawhide to the First Half Championship in the North Division and is close to winning the Second Half as well. The team has the best overall record in the league. Roof is a former player in the Tigers organization.

Lake Elsinore Storm pitching coach, Pete Zamora, is the Cal League Coach of the Year. Zamora's pitchers

lead the league in ERA (3.23), WHIP (1.21), and shutouts (12). Zamora, a So-Cal native and former UCLA Bruin, played in the minor leagues with the Dodgers, Phillies, Mets, Yankees, Brewers, and Diamondbacks.

For only the third time in Cal League history, the League has Co-MVPs. Storm catcher, Luis Campusano, and

Lancaster JetHawks first baseman, Luis Castro received the Co-Most Valuable Player award. It is the first time since 1980 that there are Co-MVPs. Campusano, the first Storm catcher to ever be selected as a post-season all-star, leads the league in hitting with a .320 average. Castro is second in the league at .312 and leads the league in RBIs with 81.

Modesto Nuts pitcher, Ian McKinney won the award for Pitcher of the Year. McKinney leads the league in several

categories including ERA (2.84), wins (12), and innings pitched (136.1). McKinney's catcher for many of those innings, Cal Raleigh, is the league's Rookie of the Year. Below are the rest of the awards and honors for the 2019 season:

The League has 8 teams and plays a 140-game season starting in April with the regular season wrapping up on Labor Day. Over the years, the California League has produced 19 Hall of Famers, 19 MVP winners, 21 CY Young recipients, and has 35 Rookie of the Year awards. The California League has become the premier Class "A" League in Minor League Baseball.
