
Buzzards shake up roster, two more released

EL PASO, Texas â In what has been a busy week to improve the El Paso Buzzards roster, head coach Craig Coxe announced today that defenseman Derek McKinlay and goaltender Josh Baier have been released and placed on waivers. On Monday, the team released defenseman Pat Glenday.
When asked about the players coming in to take the roster spots left by McKinlay, Baier and Glenday, coach Coxe said with a smile, "I've got something in the works.
McKinlay appeared in 12 games this season for the Buzzards, recording no goals and two assists, but amassing 11 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of â5. Playing in his sixth professional season, McKinlay, 23, is a 6'1, 205 lb. defenseman from Sarnia, Ontario. This was his second stint with the Buzzards. He played for El Paso during the 2001-2002 season, as well as the Corpus Christi Ice Rays and the Amarillo Rattlers of the Central Hockey League. In his career, McKinlay amassed seven goals, 28 assists and 179 penalty minutes.
Baier, playing in his first professional season, participated in four games this season. He was 0-2-0 with a 4.87 goals against average, and a .856 save percentage. His best professional game occurred in his first start against the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Nov. 16 when he held Lubbock to one goal in a 1-0 loss. Previously, Baier played college hockey for the University of Findlay. Baier, 25, is a 6'2, 200 lb. goalie from Pittsburgh, Pa.
Glenday appeared in 17 games for the Buzzards, recording no goals or assists, but amassing 24 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +1. Glenday, a 5-11, 190 lb. defenseman from Sherwood Park, AB, is in his third professional season in the Central Hockey League. Last season he played for the San Antonio Iguanas, recording a goal and six assists (7 points) in 54 games.
The Buzzards' next home game will be at the El Paso County Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. against the San Angelo Saints.
