Saints Week in Review
November 26, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â The Saints continue their torrid December schedule with three more games this week. The Saints host Austin Wednesday night, go to El Paso Friday night and host Oklahoma City for the first time on Saturday night.
Weekend Promotions â Saturday night is "Chamber of Commerce Stuff the Stadium Night" at the San Angelo Coliseum. Every business in the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce has been invited to bring their workers to the game at the team's group rates, regardless of the size of the group. The Saints are also hosting 1,000 low-income and underprivileged families and children who will come to the game free Saturday night.
Week In Review â The Saints went 1-2 this week with home losses to Austin and Odessa, and a home win against Laredo.
November 19th / Austin 3 - San Angelo 2 / The injury-wracked Saints put on a good show against the division-leading Ice Bats, but faded toward the end of the game and dropped a 3-2 decision. The Saints led 1-0 after the 1st period on a power-play goal by Troy Mann. Matt Sharuga tied it for Austin in the 2nd with a short-handed goal. Austin then took the lead on a power-play goal by Gerald Tallaire, but the Saints tied the score just over a minute later on Mann's 2nd power-play goal of the night. Yet another power-play goal, this one by Austin's Brett Seguin, just over two minutes later proved to be the game-winner.
November 22nd / Odessa 4 - San Angelo 1 / In a game where the score really didn't tell the story of the night, the Saints fell to Odessa in an aggressive and entertaining game. The Jacks took a 2-1 lead in the 1st period, and the score remained that way until less than a minute remaining in the game. The Saints pulled goaltender Scott Reid and promptly gave up an empty-net goal to make it 3-1 Odessa. Then, with just 1-second remaining on the clock, Greg Willers dumped the puck into the Saints' zone and it bounced through Reid's legs for the final 4-1 score.
November 23rd / Laredo 2 - San Angelo 3 / The Saints finally broke their 8-game losing streak, due mostly to a dominant 1st period against the Bucks. Goals by Chris Peach, Troy Mann and Jan Jas put the Saints up 3-0 midway through the 1st and another goal by Peach was disallowed when the linesman said it went off the front crossbar instead of the back bar. After a scoreless 2nd period the Saints held on in the 3rd for the 3-2 win. Scott Reid stopped 46 of 48 shots as the Bucks outshot the Saints 48-26.
Injury Report â The Saints are finally starting to get healthy again. Jason Abel is back in the line-up with Jamie Thompson and Cory Pecush hopefully just days away from rejoining the roster. New additions Marcus Forsberg and Kelly Miller have added a spark to the team â and better yet, more bodies to put on the ice each night. Some more roster moves/additions are again possible this week.
