FC Dallas News Release

DALLAS – Burn defender Cory Gibbs was one of seven Major League Soccer players selected to the US National Team's 18-man roster by Manager Bruce Arena to face Honduras on Wednesday, June 2 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The friendly match will serve as the USA's final warm-up before 2006 World Cup qualifying kicks off June 13 against Grenada in Columbus.

"We have been building this team for almost two years since the last World Cup, and we're reaching an important stage," said Arena, who has led the team to a 2-1-2 record in 2004. "We've had some good results recently, and some good competition for spots on the field. This is a last opportunity for the players on this roster to demonstrate their form and fitness as we make our final decisions about the group that will begin World Cup qualifying next month."

Gibbs, who has nine caps with the National Team, has now been called up for the team's last five matches. He played 90 minutes in both a 1-1 draw vs. Haiti on March 13 and in a 1-0 loss at Holland on February 15. He traveled to Poland with the team for a March 31 match but returned to the US due to flu-like symptoms. He also was on the initial roster for the April 28 clash vs. Mexico at the Cotton Bowl but was replaced after suffering a groin strain in MLS action the weekend before that match.
