
Burlington Comes up Short against Doughboys

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Burlington watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-2 loss to Johnson City on Friday. Johnson City scored on a single by Cherokee Nichols and an error in the first inning.They got their offense started when Nichols singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Will Westbrock earned the win for Johnson City. The lefthander lasted three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking one. Gianluca Shinn threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Shinn recorded the last six outs to earn the save for the Doughboys.
Jacob Speaker took the loss for Burlington. Speaker allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out six.
Seth Willis started the game for the Doughboys. The pitcher allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three.
Nick Winkelmeyer led the Sock Puppets with two hits in three at bats.
Johnson City collected eight hits. Nichols and Ashton King each had multiple hits for the Doughboys.
Game two of the series will commence at 7PM from Burlington Athletic Stadium on Saturday.
