Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Blaze WR SIAHA BURLEY (5-10, 176, Central Florida) and QB JOE GERMAINE (6-2, 229, Ohio State) finished record-setting seasons with a playoff berth and find themselves as leading candidates for Arena Football League honors - All-Arena and Offensive Player of the Year.
Burley, who was Second Team All-Arena in 2006, became the first player in United States professional football history to reach 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. The six-year veteran achieved the mark in just 15 games.
The 2005 AFLWA Offensive Player of the Year finished the 2007 regular season with 166 receptions (No. 1 in AFL) for 2,129 yards (No. 1 in AFL) and 49 touchdowns (No. 2 in AFL). His record-setting, 2,000-yard ball was sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Germaine, who is an Offensive Player of the Year and All-Arena candidate, surpassed San Jose SaberCats QB MARK GRIEB's record of 4,841 yards set in 2006. Germaine reached 5,000 yards when he connected with WR TOM PACE on a 10-yard pass with just over one minute remaining in last week's 47-37 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers.
The former Rose Bowl MVP finished the 2007 regular season by leading the AFL in completions (422) and passing yards (5,005), while finishing No. 2 in touchdown passes (107) and attempts (617). His record-setting, 5,000-yard ball was also sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
With the Dallas Desperados' 77-58 victory over the Colorado Crush on Monday night, the Utah Blaze (8-8) will travel to play the Los Angeles Avengers (9-7) in the first round of the 2007 Arena Football League Playoffs on Monday, July 2.
