RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, August 15, 2008) - For the second consecutive season, Richmond Kickers midfielder Mike Burke finished the campaign as the USL Second Division Assist Leader, posting eight on the season. Burke finished one ahead of Charlotte Eagles forward Dustin Swinehart who sits atop the USL-2 leader board in overall points, garnering the league's Scoring and Goal Scoring Championship awards.

Assuming the role of captain in 2007, last year's USL-2 Most Valuable Player finished his ninth season with the Kickers second on the team in scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points in 2008. Named to the USL-2 Team of the Week four times, he garnered USL-2 Player of the Week honors on June 17th for adding two assists in the Kickers 4-1 win over Bermuda and on July 29th for notching three goals and two assists during the Kickers 6-0 win over Maryland. Last season, Burke eclipsed the Kickers all-time career assists leader to hold the sole position in the franchise with 48 overall. This year, he leapfrogged into third place in the all-time career goals category with 33 and into second place in the all-time career games played category with 233. He continues to reside in third place on the Kickers all-time career points list with 114.

Voted both Supporter's Choice MVP and Player's Choice MVP last season, Burke was a USL-2 First Team honoree en route to the Kickers third consecutive USL Championship appearance. Also taking the title as USL-2 Assist Leader last year with nine assists, Burke follows in the footsteps of Chris Carrieri, who won the honor with Richmond in 2006 before returning to the USL First Division with the expansion Carolina RailHawks.

Finishing the season as the GAA Champion for the league's lowest goals against average was Cleveland City Stars goalkeeper Eric Reed, who posted an average of 0.583 over the course of 12 games. He finished ahead of Charlotte's Terry Boss (0.691) and Harrisburg's Daniel Cepero (1.000).

The Richmond Kickers are pleased to host the Cleveland City Stars this Saturday, August 16th at 7:00 pm at the University of Richmond in the USL Second Division Semifinals. Entering postseason play with the #2 seed, Richmond (14-4-2, 44 points) received a First Round bye. The winner of Saturday's single-elimination Semifinal will advance to the USL-2 Championship at a host site to be determined.
