MISSOULA, MT - Missoula Osprey right-handed pitcher Enrique Burgos has been named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 7.
In two starts, Burgos - who is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in the month of September - scattered nine hits and four walks, allowing just one earned run, while striking out 10 batters in wins at Helena and against Billings.
In his last five starts, Burgos has been very consistent, taking all but one start into the fifth inning, and allowing just four earned runs (six total) in his last 26 1/3 innings pitched, posting a 3-0 record and a 1.37 ERA during that span. Burgos also has 29 strikeouts during his last five starts.
After struggling early in the season - he was 0-1 in his first two starts, with a 15.88 ERA - Burgos has shown steady improvement throughout the season. He has reduced his overall ERA by more than three runs in his last five starts, and is currently 5-3 with a 6.15 ERA. The five wins are tied for the second-most on the squad, and he is also second on the team in innings pitched (60), plus leads all current pitchers in strikeouts (57).
