Burdick Mural Signals Start of Historic Season in Saginaw

Saginaw Spirit News Release

Fenton artist Kevin Burdick began painting a huge - 50 feet high by 40 feet wide - mural on the side of The Dow Event Center parking deck on Monday morning.

The new mural, which will feature a Spirit player in action and read "Welcome to Saginaw Home of the Saginaw Spirit, and 2024 Memorial Cup," will gradually take shape over the course of the week. The hope is, weather permitting, to have the project finished by the season opener on Saturday.

Burdick spent Monday afternoon preparing the deep blue background for the piece. He and fellow artist John Vasquez will work on the project throughout the week from 9 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. and members of the community are welcome to come watch.

If you live in Saginaw, you may have already seen samples of the Burdick's work. The artist recently created a mural about the struggles of addiction and recovery on the side of the Saginaw County Health Department building along Michigan Avenue, as well as a tribute to Civil Rights activist Jim Letherer across the street from WNEM TV5 in downtown Saginaw.

Any fans who want to leave their mark on the Saginaw Spirit mural are invited to leave their own mark on the mural during the Home Opener Celebration presented by Covenant prior to the home opener.

Everyone is welcome to join in on some season kick-off fun beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jolt Credit Union Event Park. There will be food trucks, inflatables and more!
