The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce that 1B/DH Chase Burch, the Beach Bums career leader in five different offensive categories, will come back for the 2013 season.
"Certainly we are excited to have Chase returning for his fourth season in TC," said Traverse City manager, Gregg Langbehn. "It's hard to find middle of the order guys. It's even harder to find one that at the end of the season continues to be a model of consistency as Chase has done every year."
In 2012, Burch led the Beach Bums with a .304 average to go along with 17 homers and 76 RBI. He ranked in the top-10 in the league in each triple crown category, finishing fifth in RBI, eighth in homers and 10th in average. Additionally, Burch placed fourth in walks (63), fifth in on-base percentage (.423) and was 10th in slugging percentage with a .497 mark.
During the 2011 campaign, Burch hit .260, smacking 17 homers and driving in 55. In 2010, Chase hit .299, tied for the league lead in RBI with 88 and finished third with 19 homeruns. His 77 walks that season led the Frontier League and gave him a .436 on-base percentage, placing him second in the FL.
Burch enters 2013 as the Beach Bums career leader in games played, at-bats, runs scored, homers and RBI.
The slugger has had a knack for finishing the season with a flourish. Last year, he hit .307 with seven homers and 25 RBI over the final 29 games. 2011 saw Burch hit .394 with nine homers and 18 RBI in the final 18 contests of the season. In 2010, he finished the season with an eye-popping .336 average over the final five weeks with 10 homers and 35 RBI. Those numbers helped to propel him to a second place finish in the MVP voting.
