
Bunnell Blasts Two Homers in M-Braves 9-2 Win over Barons

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Cade Bunnell hit two homers, the Mississippi Braves (54-62, 25-22) blasted four long balls and topped the Birmingham Barons (52-65, 21-27) 9-2 on Thursday night at Regions Field.
Bunnell went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. Atlanta's 40th round pick in 2019 has a .383 batting average, five homers and 17 RBI in 24 games for the M-Braves. This is currently his third stint in Double-A this season. Bunnell was most recently promoted on August 10.
RHP Tanner Gordon turned in a quality start, allowing two runs over six innings. He struck out five with no walks. Gordon dropped to a 5.72 ERA over 83 1/3 innings and picked up his team-high eighth win of the season.
After falling behind 1-0, Jalen Miller tripled to deep right center to score Drew Lugbauer and tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning.
Miller went 2-for-4 with two triples, his only triples of the season. He is batting .234 with seven homers and 33 RBI this season.
In the third, Justyn-Henry Malloy cranked a solo shot to left field for the second straight night to give the M-Braves a 2-1 lead.
Malloy, who climbed 14 spots to No. 13 in the newest prospect rankings, is hitting .287 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 34 games for the M-Braves. He was promoted from High-A Rome on July 12.
With the game tied 2-2 in the fourth, Bunnell hit his first home run. He destroyed a long ball to right field for the M-Braves to retake the lead 3-2.
Lugbauer walked to bring in a run and smacked an RBI double to left center to make it 5-2 through seven innings. He now leads the Southern League with 69 RBI.
Justin Dean whacked a solo homer to the porch in left field to make it 6-2 in the eighth, his third of the season.
Bunnell blasted his second home run in the ninth, a three-run bomb to right field to help seal the 9-2 win.
The fourth game of the series is on Friday at Regions Field. RHP Alan Rangel (5-6, 4.94) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Cristian Mena (0-0, --) for Birmingham. The first pitch is at 7:05 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:45 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
