Champlin was drafted out of Arizona State in the 33rd round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft and embarked on four seasons with the Blue Jays' organization. The 2013 season had Champlin splitting time between Lansing and elevating to high-A Dunedin. He spent most of the season with Lansing making 26 appearances, two starts, with a 6-4 record and 3.67 ERA.
A native of Olympia, WA, Champlin was first drafted out of high school in the 37th round of the 2008 draft by Tampa Bay but decided to attend college.
