WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the signing of infielder Graham Ramos. The second year pro spent last season playing in the New York Yankees' minor league system, following in the footsteps of two of his uncles.
Ramos signed a free agent contract with the Yankees last June after his senior season at Lander University in Greenwood, SC. He then spent the remainder of the 2014 season with the Gulf Coast League Yankees hitting .244 in 17 games.
The Tampa, FL native comes from a baseball family as his uncles Paul and John both played in the Yankees' system. Paul pitched in the minor leagues, while John was a catcher who eventually made the major league club in 1991.
The 24 year old spent two seasons at Lander, batting .339, seven homers, 68 RBI and 12 steals as a senior in 2014. He was named first team All-Conference and second team All Southeast Region by ABCA/Rawlings, NCBWA and Daktronics. As a junior in 2013 he started all 51 games hitting .326, six homers, 37 RBI and was named to the All-Conference team.
Ramos began his college career playing in his hometown for the University of Tampa from 2009-2011. He spent 2011-2012 at Santa Fe College before heading to Lander.
His full name is Wilfred Graham Ramos and his proud parents are Wilfred and Daryn Ramos. He has two sisters, Ashley and Mallory. In his spare time he enjoys fishing.
The 10th season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm with the home opener scheduled for Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.
All games will be broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.
The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available!
