Amarillo Bulls News Release
WICHITA FALLS, TX -- The score 2-1 was a popular one between the Amarillo Bulls and the Wichita Falls Wildcats in their four game set. The Bulls held the lead in all four games and it's the last one that got away again despite playing a better middle stanza.
The Bulls yielded three second period goals and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Wildcats at Kay Yeager Coliseum on Tuesday night. That contest concluded four games against one another over a seven day period. The two won't see one another until February where they will play yet another long set of three games.
Special teams were much improved for the Amarillo Bulls scoring twice and giving up two including one late into an empty net. However, it was the third period where the Bulls had their opportunities including a five minute major at the beginning, and a two minute near the end of regulation.
Cody Gylling and Luke Novak tallied for the Bulls in the loss, while Jacob Weatherly did his best to keep the opposition at bay stopping 41 of 46 shots including 25 in the second.
The Amarillo Bulls got off to a uncharacteristically slow start to the game as the Wildcats came out creating chances. Wichita Falls netted the game's first goal with just over five minutes gone by in the first stanza. The Bulls kept pushing forward and tied the game on a five on three power play goal. Kasper Emanuelsson's shot was denied by David Zevnik but the rebound was left at the side of the net and directed in by Cody Gylling with help from Will Harrison at 14:19. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls 10-7 in the first stanza.
It was a better second period for the Amarillo Bulls in terms of goals against and they have Jacob Weatherly to thank turning aside 25 of 28 shots he faced. The Bulls took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal from Luke Novak from Cody Gylling and Kasper Emanuelsson at 2:35. The Bulls got through most of the stanza until the Wildcats finally broke through near the midway mark scoring once. Two more goals for minutes apart gave Wichita Falls a two goal lead through 40 minutes of play.
The Bulls had a five minute power play to start the third period after defenseman Jesper Synellius was hit from behind. The Wildcats prevented Amarillo from getting anything past Zevnik and the lead remained intact. A late game power play gave the Bulls more hope as the goaltender was lifted for the extra attacker and a two man advantage. Zevnik made some big saves including ones from Joe Leonidas and Kasper Emanuelsson.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats outshot the Amarillo Bulls 46-24.
