Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-What was a close game for four innings Thursday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park spiraled into a blowout as the Buffalo Bisons crushed the Bulls, 12-2.
The score remained knotted at one apiece through the fourth inning, but Buffalo pounded Nick DeBarr for four runs in the fifth, including a three-run home run by Trevor Crowe, who also hit a solo bomb in the third off Durham starter Heath Phillips. The Bisons scored four more in the seventh, including Todd Linden's three-run shot off Calvin Medlock. Linden hit a second three-run home run in the ninth inning off Mike DiFelice, who made an emergency pitching appearance to save the Durham bullpen from getting overly depleted.
David Huff (4-3, 2.79) won in five innings of work, allowing a run on two hits and two walks, striking out three. Bryan Bullington got his first save of the year with four innings of relief, giving up a run on four hits while fanning four. Nick DeBarr (7-3) was the loser, pitching two innings and allowing four runs on four hits and three walks.
The Bulls will try to salvage the final game of the series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park when Ben Hendrickson (9-7, 3.59) will oppose Buffalo's Zach Johnson (2-0, 1.08).
