Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Bulls held off a late surge from the Corpus Christi IceRays to win their fifth straight game with a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.
After Amarillo fired 20 shots on goal early in the first period without finding the back of the net, the 21st shot would be the one gave the Bulls the 1-0 lead, as Devan Tongue score on a long breakaway feed from Gagik Malakyan. Just about two minutes later, Oliver Bezick sniped his fourth of the season into the back of the net, making the advantage 2-0 in Amarillo's favor. With time dwindling in the opening frame, Stephen Kyrkostas, the IceRays winger, lifted a puck into the Amarillo goal to make the score 2-1.
An early powerplay opportunity led to Amarillo extending their lead back to a two-goal spread, as Niclas Puikkonen tallied his 10th goal of the season, bringing the score to 3-1.
With the net empty, Kyrkostas would tally a second goal for Corpus Christi, but it came too late, as the Bulls held on for the 3-2 victory.
With the win, the Bulls are now 34-7-1-2 with 71 points and hold sole possession of the South Division lead.
The Bulls remain at home, in the Budweiser Bull Pen on Friday, February 7, to take on the Topeka Pilots. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
