
Bulls Defeat IceRays Saturday

AMARILLO, Texas - The Amarillo Bulls (34-7-1-2, 71 pts.) improved their lead atop the North American Hockey League standings with a 3-2 win Saturday against the Corpus Christi IceRays at the Budweiser Bull Pen at Amarillo Civic Center.
Stephen Kyrkostas scored both goals for the IceRays (13-26-3-3, 32 pts.).
Amarillo scored twice in a span of 2:02 in the second period with tallies from Devan Tongue at 16:23, and Oliver Bezick at 18:25. The IceRays got on the board prior to the end of the first period; Evan Carroll fed a breakaway pass to Aaron Hamel, who was stopped by Amarillo netminder Max Gutjahr, but Kyrkostas buried the rebound at 19:43.
Niclas Puikkonen scored a power-play goal 1:45 into the second period to put the Bulls back up by a pair.
With IceRays netminder Jeremy Forman pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Kyrkostas scored again with 7.2 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game to a 3-2 final.
Amarillo doubled Corpus Christi in shots, 44-22.
The IceRays return home this weekend with games on Friday, Feb. 7 (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday, Feb. 9 (3:05 p.m.) against the expansion New Mexico Ice Wolves.
