Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls used an electric second inning to propel themselves to a 9-5 victory over the Indianapolis Indians Friday night at the DBAP. Jose De Leon (2-1) recorded the victory for the Bulls, while Brandon Waddell (1-5) suffered the loss for the Indians.
After a sluggish start on Thursday, the Bulls came out firing on Friday and scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dalton Kelly got the scoring started with an RBI single and the bases were promptly loaded after that, where Mac James drove in another run with a walk. Emilio Bonifacio helped drive in more runs with a two-run single to make it 4-0, before Kean Wong completed the strong start with a three-run blast to center field to make it 7-0.
The Indians attempted to chip away for much of the game, beginning with a two-run home run by Ke'Bryan Hayes to shave the deficit to five runs in the fourth. Christian Kelley drove in another run on an RBI groundout to make it 7-3 in the fifth.
The bottom of the seventh inning featured an RBI double by Nate Lowe to drive in Wong from first base and make it 8-3. Rocky Gale continued his strong homestand by driving in Lowe on a single to make it 9-3 later in the frame. Trayvon Robinson delivered an extra run for the visitors on a solo shot to right field to make it 9-4 in the ninth, and Hunter Owen tallied another home run in the frame, but that was as close as Indianapolis would get.
The Bulls and Indians will get together for two more games, beginning with game two on Saturday night at 6:05 at the DBAP. Right-hander Trevor Richards will make his second start as a Bull and face off against Indians right-hander Alex McRae.
