AMARILLO, TX - Games like Friday night are a good lessoned learned for a young hockey team. They can mould and shape the future and looked back as a turning point of a program.

The Amarillo Bulls hope that the game was just that, an opportunity learn and grow from a tough loss.

The first seven minutes of the game didn't go the Amarillo Bulls way at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The visiting Wichita Falls Wildcats tallied three first period goals and went on to beat the Bulls 9-1. It was Wichita Falls' seventh win of the season and it pulled them into sole possession of second place in the South Division just two points back of the Topeka RoadRunners who resume play on Saturday.

Mitch McPherson netted the lone Bulls' goal in the second period. The Wildcats tallied four power play goals in the contest with two coming in the first and an additional two more in the final stanza. Jacob Weatherly took the loss in goal.

The Wildcats started the game strong with three goals in the first 6:03. The first goal was on a 5- on-3 power play and the other two were even strength. The third goal was a bad bounce for the Bulls as a shot from the blue line deflected off a player's shoulder and into the net. Goaltender Austin Shaw kept the Bulls at bay with key saves.

After Wichita Falls made it 4-0, the Bulls got on the board with their lone goal. Mitch McPherson scored on a wraparound beating Shaw with a low shot to make it 4-1. That goal sparked the Bulls as they had good momentum for a long stretch. The good play was kick started by big body checks including one from Kyle Hartman and another from Mitch McPherson.

The Wildcats were awarded a penalty shot later in the stanza but Jacob Weatherly denied him with a strong save.

Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger was tossed from the hockey game in the period when he argued a penalty call with the official.

In the final minute of the second, the Wildcats added a fifth goal to push the lead back to a four goal margin.

The third period proved to be another rough one for the Bulls surrendering four goals including two via the power play.

The Bulls applied the pressure to goaltender Shaw but couldn't get anything across the goal line.

Despite getting outshot 45-39 in the contest, the Bulls had the shot advantage 20-13 in the third period. Each team had nine power play opportunities with the Wildcats netting four goals.

Its seven days until the Amarillo Bulls next game as they return to the ice on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 pm against the Lone Star Brahmas at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
