Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Closing time...

It's been a tough lately for the Amarillo Bulls to accomplish over the past three games. It was the reason why the Bulls extended their winless string to four in a row, a 2-1 set back at the hands of the Odessa Jackalopes on Sunday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

It was Odessa's first win in Amarillo in regular season play in franchise history. Their previous wins had come in the North American Hockey League playoffs and in a pre-season contest. Dean Shatzer stopped 42 of 43 shots he faced including 25 alone in the middle stanza. Joey Molinaro had the lone Bulls goal in the second period. Anton Martinsson also stopped 42 of 43 shots he faced to post the loss in goal.

The visiting Jackalopes got off to fast start and opened up the scoring just 3:41 into the game on a great shot. The Bulls finally got rolling later in the period but were unable to find the back of the net. Odessa outshot the Bulls 17-11.

One of the positives to the Amarillo Bulls' game over the last couple of weeks has been their improved play in the middle periods. For the third straight game the Bulls proved dominant in the second period firing 25 shots on goal and tying the game. Joey Molinaro tipped home a shot from Tyler Lundgren and Tyler Hall at the 10:53 mark. The forward line of Charlie Singerhouse, Liam Ferguson and Brady Crabtree did a great job forcing the play and giving the Bulls great scoring chances.

The Bulls had the power play to start the third period and the best chance came from Trent Dillinger who missed on a sharp angled shot. A face-off win by the Jackalopes inside their own end set up the eventual game winning goal. The Bulls were unsuccessful in keeping the puck in at the blueline leading to a rush up the ice. The Jackalopes scored on a tip in at the side of the net when the Bulls failed to clear the puck out of their own end. In the final minute, the Bulls pulled their goaltender but were unable to get the equalizer.

Each team had 43 shots on goal in the contest. There were just four combined power plays in the game with the Bulls going 0 for 3.
