Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

Wildcats left-winger Austin Beaulieu has been named the South Division's First Star of the Week, the NAHL announced Monday.

Beaulieu is one of seven returning players to the Wildcats roster this season, and expectations were not higher of anyone else on the team at the start of the campaign. He was second on the Wildcats in scoring last season and is playing in his final year of junior hockey before moving on to the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

The veteran's season started a bit slower than he would have liked with just three points through the first eleven games, but he has turned things around tremendously. He has now had points in all but three of his last ten games and he just had arguably the best week of his junior hockey career. With an astonishing eight point week, half of the winger's points all season were scored in the last seven days.

Beaulieu had an assist in Tuesday night's game, a goal and two assists on Friday night coupled with Second Star of the Game honors, and a goal and three assists on Saturday. He was an integral part of the eight goal explosion the Wildcats had on Friday and was largely responsible for the comeback victory Saturday in Amarillo.

Wildcats President and General Manager Paul Baxter had nothing but positive things to say about the winger. "Austin is mega-skilled and one of the big reasons for our success over the last couple of seasons," Baxter said. "He is an exemplary leader and role model on and off the ice."

Beaulieu's four-point night was his first ever as a Wildcat. He is now tied for sixth on the team in points.
