Belleville Bulls News Release
PORT PERRY, ON - Your Belleville Bulls continue to shake off the rust as they head to Port Perry to host the Erie Otters in their second preseason game of the year. The Bulls are coming off a late come from behind loss to the Peterborough Petes on Monday afternoon. Jack Hanley, Remi Elie and Chad Heffernan were all goal scores in the loss.
Coach George Burnett gave his squad a day off the ice on Tuesday as they headed to Riverside Park in Belleville for some dryland training. Wednesday and Thursday were back to regular practice days. "Practices went well. The guys were paying attention to close detail and understanding that it's their last couple practices before the weekend and last practices before Erie so they were fairly focused and did a good job." Said Assistant Coach Jake Grimes following Thursday's practice at the Yardmen Arena.
The Erie Otters, however, are off to a good start this preseason as they breezed past the Mississauga Steelheads 5-3 at home this past weekend. Dylan Strome opened the scoring for the Otters early on with one of his three goals on the night. Jake Evans and Nick Betz also chipped in with goals of their own in the win.
Prior to their preseason opener Mitchell Byrne, Taylor Egan, and Mason Marchment all agreed to standard OHL agreements and committed to the Otters for the 2014-15 season. Byrne and Egan attended their first training camp with Erie after being drafted in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. Byrne was selected 85th overall in the 5th round last April. Egan was taken with the 110th pick as the team's sixth round selection.
Marchment, the son of former NHL defenseman Bryan Marchment and Cousin of Bulls Captain Jake Marchment, was a free agent invite to Erie's training camp. The 6'3", 195-pound, 18-year-old forward played last season with Cobourg Cougars of the OJHL recording 22 goals and 43 points in 51 regular games played.
"Regardless of who they have coming back some of the style of play will definitely rub off on the new kids and the young guys that were there last year learned a ton from the core veteran group that they had. They will likely still be strong at finding ways to score so we will have to be strong defensively and match them offensively." Assistant Coach Jake Grimes on Erie.
Charlie Graham will start in goal tonight. You can catch play-by-play coverage from Jack Miller on 800 CJBQ starting at 7:15 PM.
