Amarillo Bulls News Release
Topeka, KS - After being held scoreless on Friday night, the Amarillo Bulls got back to their winning ways with a big offensive night, as they topped the Topeka Pilots 4-1 on Saturday night.
The victory pushes Amarillo to a 4-3-0-1 record, giving the team nine points in their quest to climb the South Division standings.
The game began with a back and forth affair that saw both goaltenders, Amarillo's Charlie Glockner and Topeka's Guy Blessing, make a number of saves in the opening minutes of play.
The breakthrough would come in an unlikely situation, as the Bulls' Lauri Sertti through a long feed down the ice on the penalty kill that Matt Allen picked up and fed between the legs of Blessing to give the Bulls the 1-0 lead.
The Bulls would take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission and showed no signs of slowing down in the second period, as Noah Carlin saw a Gagik Malakyan feed kick to the back post, before he would bury the puck for his second goal of the season to make the score 2-0.
In the later stages of the second, an awkward bounce off the end-boards led to Devan Tongue finding a loose puck inside of the Topeka crease that he would tuck home to grow the lead to 3-0. The goal would be Tongue's first of the season.
Into the third period, the Bulls would extend their lead to 4-0 when newly acquired winger Jonathan Young netted a rebound past Blessing for his first goal in a Bulls sweater.
Under two minutes later, Topeka would answer with a John Gormley goal, breaking up the Amarillo shutout. Charlie Glockner would finish the game with 15 saves on 16 shots in the net for the Bulls.
The Bulls will resume action on next Friday and Saturday when they begin a home-and-home series, in Amarillo, with the Lone Star Brahmas. The action will begin at 7:05 PM CST on Friday night and can be heard on 107.1 Nash Icon and seen on Hockey TV.
