Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-Mitch Talbot became the second-winningest pitcher in Bulls Triple-A history as Durham shut out the Norfolk Tides 4-0 Thursday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. With the win, Durham's magic number to clinch the South Division title fell to 10.
Talbot (13-7, 3.80) recorded his 26th victory in a Bulls uniform with seven innings of work, allowing six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Dale Thayer and Scott Dohmann followed him to preserve the shutout. Mike DiFelice drove in three of the Bulls' four runs with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a two-run home run in the fourth.
Talbot now only trails Mickey Callaway, who accumulated 34 wins with the Bulls from 1998 to 2001.
Andy Mitchell (12-7, 4.55) took the loss in five innings, allowing all four runs on five hits and four walks.
The Bulls hit the road for eight days, starting a four game series Friday with the Indianapolis Indians. Jeff Niemann (7-5, 5.38) will start for Durham and Jimmy Barthmaier (3-1, 3.63) will go for Indianapolis. Game time is 7:15 p.m., with coverage on WRJD-AM 1410 and 99.9 FM The Fan getting underway at 6:55.
