
Indians Named Among IL's Best by Baseball America

INDIANAPOLIS -- Center fielder Andrew McCutchen, third baseman Neil Walker and right handed pitcher Jimmy Barthmaier have been named among the International League's best in the Aug. 25 edition of Baseball America.
The three Indians were all listed among the best in the International League in Baseball America's annual "Best Tools" issue. McCutchen was named the "Most Exciting Player," Walker the "Best Defensive Third Baseman" and Barthmaier as having the "Best Breaking Ball."
McCutchen, rated by Baseball America as the Pirates number one prospect entering 2008, owns a .276 batting average, .371 on-base percentage, 65 runs, 23 doubles, nine homers, 44 RBI, 62 walks and 28 stolen bases through 118 Triple-A games. The 21-year-old continues to rank among International League leaders in walks, games played, stolen bases and on-base percentage.
Walker, rated by Baseball America as the Pirates number two prospect entering 2008, owns a .946 fielding percentage and a highlight reel full of spectacular plays in just his first full season at the third base position. The converted catcher has also posted a .236 batting average, 61 runs, 23 doubles and a team-leading 14 homers, and 69 RBI through 116 Triple-A games.
Barthmaier, a mid-season call-up from Double-A Altoona, owns a 3-1 record, 3.63 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 12 Triple-A starts this season. Rated by Baseball America as the number four prospect in the Houston Astros organization prior to the 2007 season, Barthmaier has collected a total of 93 strikeouts in 23 starts across three levels of the Pirates organization this season.
Indianapolis continues its six-game homestand on Friday when the Durham Bulls visit Victory Field for the first time this season. Bulls RHP Jeff Niemann and Barthmaier are the probables for the series opener at 7:15 p.m.
Over the past 18 home games, the Tribe has averaged over 10,000 fans per game. For the season, the Indians have drawn 516,277 fans for an average of 8,195 per game.
