
Bulls Beat Red Wings in Front of Sellout Crowd

Durham, NC- RHP Rob Bell (3-4) pitched seven and 2/3 strong innings and Jared Sandberg homered to lead the Durham Bulls to a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Red Wings in front of a sellout crowd of 10,445. The Bulls captured three of four games from the Red Wings and finished the homestand at 4-4.
Bell allowed one run (earned) and three hits while striking out nine and walking one. RHP Lee Gardner pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the season.
Sandberg tied the score at one with a homerun over the Blue Monster in the second inning. The score remained tied until the seventh inning when Hector Ortiz doubled in Scott Neuberger and later scored on Antonio Perez's double.
Justin Morneau hit his fifth homerun in eight Triple-A games in the second inning for the Red Wings only run of the night. LHP Mike Duvall (1-1) took the loss after allowing three runs (earned) and nine hits over six and 2/3 innings. He struck out three and had no walks.
American Idol finalist Clay Aiken threw out the first pitch and performed the National Anthem at tonight's game. An autographed painting of Aiken was auctioned during the game and raised $2,000 for the Autism Society of America.
Following the game, Bulls outfielder Jason Tyner was recalled to Tampa Bay. Tyner played the entire season, entering tonight's game batting .355 (44/124).
