Bulls beat IceRays 3-2 on Saturday night

AMARILLO, TX - TJ Sarcona scored the game-winning goal with under seven minutes remaining in regulation time to lift the Amarillo Bulls to a 3-2 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Saturday night at the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

That game moved the Bulls back into second place in the NAHL's South Division, and one win away from clinching second place and home ice advantage in the first round.

The Bulls and the IceRays battled hard throughout the contest but Amarillo seemed to take control of the play in the final 40 minutes. Mitch Rogge scored for the Bulls on the power play to tie the game at 2-2 with just under four minutes played in the third period. Sarcona gave the Bulls the lead they wouldn't relinquish when his rebound shot found the back of the net on a mad scramble. Defenseman Karl Beckman had two assists, including one on the equalizer.

After a slow start, goaltender Nikifor Szczerba played well and didn't allow the IceRays to score over the final 40 minutes.

The Amarillo Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Mitch Rogge tipped home a shot on the power play from Joe Kozlak and Karl Beckman at 3:28. The IceRays tied the game up just over a minute later on a great second effort. Off a face-off win, Corpus Christi would jump to a 2-1 lead with a goal in the final two minutes of the period. There were two fights one involving Taylor Ward and another with John Rey.

There was no scoring in the second period, but the Bulls had numerous scoring chances but couldn't beat goaltender Phoenix Copley.

The Amarillo Bulls and the Corpus Christi IceRays will close out their season-series on Sunday at 6 pm in the Bull Pen at the Amarillo Civic Center. It's Family Frenzy night and fans can enjoy a special ticket package of four tickets and four hotdogs for $40.
