Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox were defeated by the Orange County Flyers tonight, July 28, by a score of 6 - 5 after giving up a two run lead in the ninth inning.
The Silver Sox lite up the scoreboard in the first inning after CF Victor Hall hit a triple and scored when DH Juan Senreiso hit an RBI single. Senreiso again led the Silver Sox in offense going 3-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
However, it wasn't the offense that let Silver Sox fans down tonight, it was the bullpen. Going into the eighth inning with a three run lead, 5 -2, Shawn Balteff came into the game to relieve starter James Johnson. Johnson pitched seven strong innings for the Silver Sox finishing with two earned runs off of 10 hits and six strikeouts.
Balteff, making his third appearance in a row, allowed one run in his inning of work off of two hits, still leaving the Silver Sox with a two run cushion.
Relieving Balteff in the ninth was projected closer Eric Thomas. Things didn't start off well for Thomas though who allowed a lead off homerun to RF Scott Goodman. After a walk and a single, Thomas allowed another run to score on a wild pitch and one more on a SAC fly to right field. A play at home on the same play recorded the last out for the Silver Sox, but the damage was done and the Flyers now led 6 - 5.
The Silver Sox tried to get a run in the bottom of the ninth, but no one was able to get on base, giving the Flyers the win and tying the series at one game a piece.
The Silver Sox play the Orange County Flyers again tonight in the rubber match of this three game series. Tonight is also Family Night where the entire family will receive General Admission tickets for just $14 no matter the size of the family. Family Night tickets must be purchased at the field before the game.
