Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Charleston, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs scored a pair of runs in each the seventh and eighth innings to erase a three-run Augusta GreenJackets lead. Charleston won their third straight and evened their season series with the Jackets at 9-9 with a 6-5 win over Augusta on Thursday night.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the RiverDogs had runners at first and second off Hector Correa, trying to cling onto a three-run lead. Jimmy Paredes tripled off the wall in left-center - his second triple of the game - to bring home a pair and cut the GreenJackets lead to one. In the eighth, Correa allowed a one-out single to Rob Lyerly and a double to Kyle Higashioka before giving way to Jose Casilla.

The Dominican righty got Emerson Landoni to ground out but Lyerly scored from third to tie the game at five. Francisco Santana struck the decisive blow for the RiverDogs with a two-out liner over Chris Dominguez's head at third - a double that scored the go-ahead run for Charleston. Francisco Gil retired three of four GreenJacket hitters in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the year.

Both teams scored a pair of runs to open things in the first. Augusta got a run off a double play ball and another when Nick Liles scampered home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Jackets. Andy Reichard allowed three straight hits in the Charleston half of the first though, including a Paredes RBI triple and a run-scoring Neil Medchill single, to allow the RiverDogs to tie things at two.

Each starter would settle down after that as neither team got a hit until the fifth inning. The GreenJackets would build their three-run lead, starting in the fifth inning when Augusta got back-to-back singles by Daniel Cook and Ydwin Villegas to open the frame. Evan Crawford laid down a bunt to move the runners over and when Charleston starter Mike Solbach's throw to first went down the right-field line, Cook scored to give Augusta a one-run lead.

The lead grew to three in the seventh when the Jackets got a two-out double from Dominguez and a single by Luke Anders to follow before the bullpen gave way in the home half of the seventh.

Correa (2-2) allowed two runs on three hits and saw his streak of nine consecutive strikeouts snapped in the loss. Jose Ramirez (3-4), making his first relief appearance of the year, allowed a pair of runs on four hits while striking out three to get the win.

The GreenJackets will send Jeremy Toole (2-3, 4.12) to the mound on Friday in search of their first win of the series. He'll face fellow righty Brett Marshall (1-0, 2.76). First pitch from Charleston will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
