Bullpen can't hold off Armada

August 5, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox bullpen couldn't stop the Los Angeles Armada offense allowing five runs over two innings, giving the Silver Sox another loss 10 - 6.

Things didn't start so well for the Silver Sox when Silver Sox starter James Johnson allowed a homerun on the first pitch of the game, however Johnson turned it around quickly. After allowing two runs in the first, Johnson settled down and finished the night pitching six innings, allowing five runs all earned, and striking out six.

However, the offense came to rescue of the pitching again and scored four runs in the first inning to give the Silver Sox the early lead, including a lead off homerun by CF Victor Hall.

The Silver Sox would add two more runs in the second when RF Ryan Kowalski hit a two run homerun, his first of the season, to give the Silver Sox a 6 - 4 lead as they headed into the third inning.

Going into the seventh, Manager Les Lancaster relieved Johnson with Shawn Balteff. Balteff couldn't seem to find his spots as he allowed one run to score on a sac fly with the bases loaded and one more on a wild pitch. Those two runs would eventually be enough for the Armada as they took the lead 7 - 6.

However, the Armada would add another three runs in the eighth inning off of reliever Jason Martinez who came in for Balteff. Those five runs late in the game would be all the Armada would need to close out the game and get the win.

The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park tomorrow night to take on the Armada in the third game of this four game series. Tomorrow night is also Family Night at Peccole Park. All families, regardless of size, will receive admission for just $14 (This offer is only valid at the Silver Sox ticket booth). Also, parents and children will be allowed to play catach before and after the game as well as run the bases.
