Yuma Scorpions News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - Maikel Jova's three-run double in the top of the fifth inning led the Yuma Scorpions to a 4-2 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader with the Orange County Flyers on Saturday night.

Yuma right-hander Aaron Wilson earned his third win of the season (3-0), going five innings, striking out four in his first start with the Scorpions.

The Scorpions scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning, one on RBI walk by Rich Janeway before Jova's double platd Hector Bernal, Jordan Prado and Janeway.

Neil Hayes preserved the victory for the visitors, striking out three in the final two innings for his eighth save of the season.

Orange County led the game early, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage on a solo home run by Bret Levier and an RBI sacrifice fly by Rich Pohle which scored Dave Bacani.

The win for the Scorpions was bitter sweet because they almost had a three-game sweep in the series, before the Flyers stole Game 1 with walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Yuma left-hander Roger Luque pitched his fourth complete game of the season, but was given the loss (5-4) after giving up the game-winning runs on a two-run single by Buddy Morales, resulting in the Flyers' 5-4 win.

The Scorpions led 4-1 early in the game but couldn't hold on.

Prado knocked in Bernal on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, tying the game at 1-1 before scoring three more in the fourth.

A.J. Valentine drove in Jova on RBI triple and then Janeway knocked in Valentine on a single.

The split in the double header puts the Scorpions (34-22, 13-5) ½ game behind Long Beach in the second-half standings after the Armada (37-18, 14-3) defeated the Reno Silver Sox 10-6 Saturday night.
