Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI. - The host Green Bay Bullfrogs (16-32, 4-8) used an impressive 12-run sixth inning to secure a dominant 17-6 victory over the visiting Lakeshore Chinooks (24-22, 8-3) at Joannes Stadium Sunday afternoon. The 17 runs are a season-high for the Bullfrogs after scoring 15 this past Thursday night at Wisconsin Rapids. Green Bay now improves to 4-2 against Lakeshore this season.

Both teams went back-and-forth through the first five and a half innings of action with two ties and two lead changes. Lakeshore took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI double by Griffin Dey. The Bullfrogs got on the board in the third after Chinooks first baseman Connor Christman dropped an infield pop-up, allowing two runs to score and give the Frogs a 2-1 lead.

Lakeshore tied the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly from Dallas Beaver in the fifth. Green Bay answered quickly in the bottom frame as Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) blasted a go-ahead two-run shot to put the Bullfrogs back in front 4-2.

The Chinooks then used a three-run, four-hit sixth inning to grab a 5-4 advantage. Lakeshore's rally began with three straight singles, including a RBI base-knock by Cole Turney to make it a 4-3 game. A Jack Dunn two-run single put the visitors back ahead 5-4.

Green Bay responded in a massive way in the following frame. The Bullfrogs smacked 12 runs on nine hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 16-5 advantage.

Green Bay's scoring explosion commenced with a RBI single from Brian Davis (Freshman, Gordon State College) to tie the game at 5-5. Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) was then hit by a pitch to score a run and give the Bullfrogs a 6-5 advantage. A pair of two-run singles from Acosta and Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) stretched the lead out to 10-5 before a RBI single from Luke Robinson (Sophomore, Western Carolina) and Eddy Gonzalez's (Junior, Incarnate Word) RBI walk extended the lead to 12-5.

The Frogs incredible run parade continued with Davis being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 13-5. A RBI single by Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) and two-run base hit from Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) pushed the margin out to 16-5. The Bullfrogs added one more run in the seventh inning with Davis's second RBI single of the game to make it 17-5. Lakeshore got one run back in the ninth, but it would not be nearly enough as Green Bay holds on for the 11-run triumph.

Acosta led Bullfrogs offense with a monster 4-for-6 performance at the plate with four RBIs. Davis finished with a season-high three RBIs in a 2-for-3 effort, while Eddy Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 with a RBI. Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Robinson was 2-for-6 with one run driven in.

Green Bay starting pitcher Hugh Chapman (Freshman, Georgia Tech) earned the win, improving to 3-3. Lakeshore starter Kevin Tibor took the loss, falling to 4-4.

The Bullfrogs are off tomorrow, but return to action on the road Tuesday night for the opening game of a crucial two-game set against the Kenosha Kingfish. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start from Simmons Field.
